Can I use the VGA and HDMI at the same time?

Of course you can.
You can possibly use the VGA and HDMI coming out from a recorder. Most boxes will support at least two displays.Some can handle more. Your system has one HDMI output, but it probably has another output as well that can be used at the same time. An one probably has a VGA port that will work at the same time as the HDMI port; If your monitors don’t have VGA inputs so you will need a VGA to HDMI converter to use that. A recent one might have a vga port or a DisplayPort in addition to HDMI; you’ll need a VGA or DisplayPort to HDMI adapter or cable.
